When a convicted sex offender allegedly exposed himself to a Hazleton child on Oct. 3, the child's father followed the suspect's vehicle for about 15 miles through two counties while using his cellphone to keep the Luzerne County 911 Center informed all the way. The suspect, Blaine Alan Arner, 53, of Penn Drive, Tamaqua, was sent to Luzerne County Correctional Facility on Wednesday to await a court hearing on indecent exposure charges after allegedly exposing himself to a 4-year-old girl in Hazleton.

A man from Wilkes-Barre who Freeland police say exposed himself and urinated in front of several children in a club house will face related charges in Luzerne County Court. Michael Tufts, 39, last known address as South Main Street and formerly of Four Seasons Estates, Hazle Township, appeared for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Daniel O'Donnell on Tuesday.

PennDOT is defending itself from a civil suit alleging it is partly at fault for a car crash that killed a 15-year-old girl in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Citizens' Voice of Wilkes-Barre reports that a Luzerne County jury is hearing testimony in the case this week.

It's been more than a month since 31-year-old Eric Frein allegedly opened fire on the state police barracks at Blooming Grove, killing Corporal Bryon Dickson and wounding Trooper Alex Douglass. Hundreds of state troopers have combed the wooded areas in parts of Monroe and Pike Counties since that night; Frein is still at large.

Luzerne County accepted ownership of the former Hotel Sterling property in Wilkes-Barre and will negotiate an agreement with the city to acquire, market and sell the land to a private developer, a county council majority decided Tuesday. The nonprofit CityVest deeded the property to the county because it is out of funds and can't repay a $6 million county community development loan intended to redevelop the site.

Luzerne County unloaded 78 of the 188 properties listed at free-and-clear and upset tax sales on Thursday, but the largest of the properties remains in the county's possession. There were no bidders in the free-and-clear tax sale - also known as a judicial sale - on the 7-acre property that once housed a grain-processing mill in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, said Sean Shamany, of Northeast Revenue, the county's tax claim operator.
